In the 1920s, Paul Terry (who later owned Terrytoons) created at least 128 cartoons for a studio called Aesop's Fables Studio, later being renamed Fables Pictures, Inc. but, cartoons were reissued by the Commonwealth in the 1950s. Some of the reissues ones have fallen into the public domain, but the status of the rest is unclear.

At least some of the films are credited as being part of a series called Aesop's Film Fables.
